« on: June 03, 2010, 10:40:32 PM »
I know this is a hoary old chesnut, but i've recently noticed corrosion on all the alloys around the edges, so my question is, are they covered under warranty cally is 30 months old ?

Cheers

Yes they are covered, I'm on my third set. The Caliber has a three year warranty so I think you need to have a trip to the dealers.

I've just had my 3rd set fitted a week before the warranty ran out.
Dealer didn't argue, just ordered a new set  in after looking at the corrosion on them, which this time wasn't as bad as the last two sets of wheels.

Well my dealer fitted alloys the Team Dynamics 17" rims are still looking as new *touchwood* they will stay that way.

WOLF  I think that you have the very same ones on too judging by your photos of CARMA.  Were they on from new?

Alloys have a tendency to react to moisure in a funny way in that they yield a bubbly powdery patina to the surface, much the same as aluminium.  Both are non-corrosive metals (alloys) but still reactions to moisture occur as rain is not just water but has lots of other properties in specialy the acid-volcanic rain we have nowadays doesnt help.

The secret is in the laquer that is applied to the surface of alloys to protect them, there are companies about that can re-laquer them.  This is cheaper than a new set...

Just to edit this post: This info for those whos alloys are going funny and not under waranty any more.

heres a place that does what Im talking about

Well took cally to the dealer re the alloy wheel problem...seemed very reluctant, took some photos to send off to dodge, but kept coming up with excuses why they might not change them.
Over all, didnt seem very helpful really,
How long does it usually take to get a reply from dodge ?

Usually get an answer within a couple of days. Firstly it goes to Milton Keynes for warranty approval, if they can't make the decision it then goes to Germany and then onto the States if they are still unable to make a decision. With my first set I got a response within 2 hours, admittedly it took a bit longer for the next set.
Three strikes and you're out.

Some dealers are now doing self approval for wheel changes, cutting out the delay and the middle man.  Sounds like your dealer might not be a helpful one. You can always try another.

I did just that.......while having my set of new alloys fitted I mentioned about the nearside rear light lens misted up and they changed that at the same time!

Had word back from dealer today, he said dodge have agreed to change 3 of the wheels, but the 4th has slight, and only slight kerb damage so they will pay only 50% towards a new one.
so its gonna cost me ?100, does that seem fair ?

ok, been to the dealer, and he says that Dodge dont send out new wheels anymore, but now send our refurbished ones, anyone else come across this.
They want ?100 towards a refurbed wheel with slight kerb damage.....i can get this done myself for ?50

I think you should have taken this further.
Dodge have accepted the wheels need replacing under warranty - so they are faulty. The fact you have scratched one is neither here nor there. The wheel is faulty scratched or not so they should replace it.
Its just a way to get money out of you to offset the cost of there inferior wheel.
Its like if a door seal is no longer sealing and them saying i must contribute as its no longer in pristine condition when they replace it.
